Ubuntu MKE / Flavors of Africa & Diaspora Wisconsin
Ubuntu MKE is the first Wisconsin-based cross-cultural, nonprofit incubator lab designed to build a more inclusive, diverse and equitable food community. It is a catalyst for community dialog, an action-driven think tank, and a ground-breaking socio-cultural experiment.
Currently, we are working to promote our Flavors of Africa & Diaspora Best Chefs Wisconsin event. We are holding eight weeks of Immersive Workshops (September-November) where guests will participate in a series of roundtable discussions, field trips and site visits focused on education and community dialogue regarding diversity, equity and inclusion; matters relating to the LGBTQ+ community; cultural sensitivity; food literacy, the Good Food Movement, community building, food as health and more.
The event culminates with an elegant Gala on November 10, 2024 where guests will enjoy Guests will enjoy tastings, performances and an opportunity to cast votes for their favorite traditional & non-traditional African dishes. The night is set to include a culinary safari tasting experience with 40 fine dining restaurants, a Keynote Address from Michael Twitty, African American writer, culinary historian, educator and James Beard Award winning author of “The Cooking Gene”, the Best Chefs Wisconsin competition where guests will vote for their favorite dish, and entertainment Including never before seen dance and cultural performances from Nigeria, Cameroon and and Senegal.
